Advantages of Safety Escape Ladders

Helps Provide A Safe Escape From Higher Floors

In many cases of structural fires, occupants can become trapped in upstairs rooms, with no way of safely escaping. Having an emergency escape ladder easily accessible allows you to exit safely through an upstairs window if your primary escape route is blocked. Escaping through upper level windows should only be done as a last resort and you should try to make sure you have at least two escape routes from a room. Remember to plan and practice your escape plan with your entire family at least twice a year.

Keep Your Family Safe

Safety ladders can help provide a safe exit for multi-story homes, but they should be used in conjunction with smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Smoke alarms help provide you and your family an early warning in the event of a fire emergency providing you time to safely escape. Alarms should be installed on every level and in each bedroom. Fire extinguishers can be used to put out small fires before they become larger. Fire extinguishers should be stored on every level, as well as in the kitchen and garage.

Additionally, you should create a clear emergency escape plan with your family and make sure everyone understands what to do in the case of an emergency. Be sure to include 2 exits out of each room, often time this means the window, in which you should store an escape ladder in those rooms and be sure everyone understands how to use it.  If you live in a multi-family building that is equipped with fire escape stairs, don’t assume you won’t need a safety ladder because you may not be able to access the fire escape safely in the event of an emergency

Be proactive in helping to protect your family by making sure you have the necessary safety equipment. Check your home to ensure all fire extinguishers are up-to-date, all fire, smoke and monoxide alarms are functioning, and that each upstairs room is equipped with a high-quality safety ladder.
