Wisconsin Power Source

Wisconsin Commercial Building Code requires the installation of 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms or hard-wired smoke alarms with battery backup in new and existing multi-family dwellings that do not exceed 60 feet in height or six stories and consist of three or more attached dwelling units.

Effective date: September 2011

Madison and Milwaukee:

All smoke alarms that use batteries as their primary power source in residential buildings must be replaced with those that include non-replaceable, non-removable 10-year batteries.
